How to give children energy for the new school year?

We haven't even had time to get used to the holidays and suddenly they're gone. Summer was fun, full of new challenges and adventures. Now a new school year awaits young and old alike. What snacks will give them energy in their desks and what snacks will make them tired?

Energy Kickers

1. Oatmeal

Starting the day with a balanced breakfast like oatmeal is a great idea- this is exceedingly true for those in school. Thanks to their low glycemic index, oatmeal will keep you satiated for a long time. Correspondingly, oatmeal provides the body with beneficial substances such as fiber, minerals, and a number of vitamins. Specifically, they are rich in calcium, magnesium, potassium, and vitamins E and B. These nutrients fight the enemies of stress and fatigue. Likewise, oats promote concentration and increase attention.

Back to school

Lifebar Oatsnack bars contain up to 34% gluten-free oats. With chocolate chips, lemon, or brownie - which flavor will your schoolchild love?

2. Fruits and vegetables

Every diet requires fruit and vegetables- whether in their fresh or dried forms. Bananas get a high grade in providing energy as they are loaded with potassium, vitamin B6, complex carbohydrates and fiber. Bananas contain natural glucose and thus give the body energy quickly. Apples on the other hand provide a gradual release of energy within their skin. Regarding vegetables, broccoli and carrots reign as energy boosters. Nonetheless you cannot go wrong with eating any fruit or vegetables.

You will find a lot of dried fruit here. Do you want mangoes, bananas, apples or pears? You'll also find it in our Lifebars - like the cherry one

3. Nuts

Nuts contain carbohydrates and fiber- nutrients crucial for a steady supply of energy. They contain an abundance of vitamins, minerals, protein, and most importantly good quality fats. Additionally, nuts are filling and give the body the energy it needs and are beneficial for the brain and nervous system.

Do your children like nuts? Cashews, almonds, Brazil nuts, macadamia nuts and pecans; we have them all. We don't skimp on nuts in our Lifebar bars either. The Brazilian one even has more than a third of them.

Did you know that...?

Raw food gives your body a lot of energy? And did you know that most of our products are raw? Granola, porridge, crackers, Lifebar or rawsage. There's something for everyone - even the smallest of eaters.

Food for the brain

Throughout the school day it is a smart idea to reach for foods that stimulate the brain and promote concentration. For example, blueberries are full of antioxidants and are known to help boost brain activity. Also, broccoli contains high amounts of vitamin K which promotes concentration. Furthermore, tomatoes, avocados, oranges, eggs or dark chocolate are also great for school plus some research suggests that they improve mood!

What not to pack in a school backpack

Certain foods give your body a quick burst of energy that runs out just as quickly. Thus, you should aim to avoid classic biscuits, sweets and white pastries. This is because blood sugar levels drop soon after eating them and the energy usually lasts no more than two hours.
